Frog Guts

Disclaimer - If you love frogs and/or believe that they should not be dissected as a school project, don't read.

I talked to my niece last night and she was feeling very nervous about the fact that today she was going to have to dissect a frog. First of all, she is in Fifth grade. I don't think we dissected anything until high-school. Sure that was decades ago, but Fifth grade - I had no idea. My gosh, what are they going to be learning in high-school? How in the heck am I going to be smart enough to help our daughter with her homework!!!!

Forget worrying about the cost of diapers, I better start studying. Sure I have a college degree but today could I really answer one of those dreaded word problems? You know the ones, "If one train is traveling 50 miles an hour and another train is traveling 40 miles an hour....." (If my friend Madeline is reading this, she is laughing, we HATED those word problems in school.)

Ok, I'm getting away from the frog story. We found this cool website http://www.froguts.com/. You can do the demo and interactively dissect a frog. We did it together on the phone last night and I think she was feeling a little better about the whole ordeal.

She called me when she got home from school and "Freddy the Freaky Frog" (as she named him just before slicing him open) was successfully dissected today!!! She did say that one kid hurled in the classroom's trash can but she did great. She found 9 various frog organs including the stomach, kidney, small and large intestines, liver, etc. Speaking of liver, a frog's liver is huge!!!!
She even went the extra mile and cut open the stomach to see if he had eaten anything lately. Apparently Freddy died with an empty stomach.
